09/21/14 Don't Look Back!

i thought of something a sister in our zone said earlier about us as children of our Heavenly Father. a lot of people here dont know their relationship with God, we are blessed because we do...however we cannot over think the fact that God has all ready given us a plan to overcome our trials...that is through the Gospel. the world to solve a problem uses money, politicians, friends, We use the gospel and the atonement of Jesus Christ. "the atonement is what can take the slums out of man and teach the man to take himself out of the slums" that statement hit me hard. It is one of the most beautiful things i have heard since i have started my ,mission. We dont want to just get rid of the " slums" in us but we want to remove ourselves from the slums. turning away from sin and leaving it behind never to look back. just like lots wife "dont look back" once we are fully repented of a sin dont go back. once we have overcome a problem dont go back. just like the 2000 stripling warriors parents. they burried their "weapons of war" deep and covenanted with God to never go back and kill again. we can relate those things to us which is one thing that i am trying to do personally. i dont want to go back to my old self. i love who i am now and who i WILL become.

this week was way awesome!! we had a sweet investiagator come to church she is set to be baptized october 18!! please pray for her..her name is xxx.   she is a single mom doing it all for her family  ! tomorrow another batch of missionaries goes home! its my batch of filipina sisters.....so after tomrrow i will have no more batch in the mission except the elders...time is going by so fast...i cant believe i only have a few months left!! but i love the mission so much!!! im like Jordan (His friend across the street returning this week from his mission in California!) is right now...i dont know how to do anything else(meaning missionary work) and frankly im scared to....hahah but i will miss this place so much...its a shame its so far away..i wish i would be able to visit here all the time. but we have facebook right? im excited for the package!! thank you so much!!! tell jordan higgins I say Hi!!! anyways im runnning a little short on time because we have a crazy week next week. the new missionaries are coming in and there are 25 of them....soooo many haha i love you guys so much talk to you next week

    Big Storm! 09/14/14

    09/14/14

(Note from Mom)  I did what mom's do best and guilt tripped Elder Hansen because he has not written in a long time!  But we are never mad at him!

    dear mom and dad.....
please dont be angry with me....i try my best haha im just not good at writing down the details. about going to alaminos the other week, it was strictly business it wasnt to visit or anything like we just went there to go to a meeting of the missionaries.  here in the philippines we listen to christmas music as soon as it is september. we cut our hair earlier and there was deck the halls playing and weird stuff like that. It makes me think of christmas and then i walk outside into the heat.....haha there was a crazy storm last night!!! crazy rain....a couple of missionaries houses were flooded but it was cool!! we were up until like two in the morning because of people calling us.....elders.....the water is getting close to the electric sockets...what do  we need to do?? of course the answer is easy....."turn off the power and go upstairs" but some other people dont understand that so we have to help them out when they are freaking out ahaha. it was a fun night!! crazy thing is yesterday at church i was looking at the bulletin board of another ward and saw a pic of koa when he was at the MTC i started freaking out!! "thats one of my best friends" ahah really funny.
we had a good week but some of the investigators dropped us.....they would either say elders sorry but my husband is a pastor and will get mad if i listen to you or others just werent interested....they were saying they want to see a good change in thier lives before they listen....I just thought to myself that that is reverse thinking and false! we Have to act first before we will see the good change. so i told the lady in a nice way that she doesnt have faith, because to be honest she doesnt. read alma 32:17 which is the opposite of faith. that is how she is acting. but we left and went to find new investigators!!! \

we love the missionary life of finding if they dont progress drop and find some more. its really fast work especially when we can be a little short for time like elder macabenta and I are.
speaking of elder macabenta he is from davao, he speaks cebuano, way smart and is planning on either becoming a professor or going into law! best missionary i have met at the scriptures and really humble!
we love to play basketball (bukol) is what we call it haha we also love messing around and having fun but getting the work done!! Im doing great! mom if you are going to send me a package...add like one or two ready bake brownies....we are a little spoiled in the big house and have an oven hahah but yeah I love you guys so much and im very grateful for all of you and im way excited for whats going on in all of your lives!! keep up the great work and always remember to remember our savior!

09/08/14 Fasting with a Purpose Brings Blessings!

      09/08/14

Elder Hansen told us he was fasting for a purpose on 09/07/14 so Darin and I decided to fast along with him even though we did not know what his purpose was.  What we do know is that he has righteous desires and so we added our prayers and fasting to his.

      Dear family,
I loved your emails!!! very spiritual and uplifiting for me!! I loved the part about you two fasting together! I can tell you that i definitley felt your prayers and fast! thank you so much!  dad that story you told me about our distant relatives is way awesome, it gave me the goose bumps. I mean imaging if they didnt do those things and what not i could also not be here and the people i have met could have not come to know the gospel and the people they will meet ect.......its a never ending chain. just like the vision in the old testament i cant remember where but it talks about the gospel; as a big boulder rolling down the mountain until it consumes everything.....that is what is happening now!!!!! time is flying by.....this past week we had our mission conference....two days half the mission per day.....it can be stressful for us because we do a lot of the organizing, conducting solving probs...and so forth as well as giving a workshop in front of all the misisonaries and then going home in the late afternoon and teaching our inv.....one thing that is hard for me to get used to is having less time to teach.....but this week we should be able to get a lot done teaching wise!! one answer to our prayer and fast is that we had and inv. family come to church .....we met them the night before (sat) we thought none of our inv would show up because the members that stopped by to pick up the others said that the invs wouldnt be coming....we were kind of sad about that but just before sac., started we saw the family come in!!!!! we were so excited!!!! so time is going by to fast.....its all ready september!! i dont understand why time speeds up the longer you are in the mission....i would hope that it would slow down......but there is nothing i can do about that.....Im giving it my all and really finding myself here in the mission. I have come to a better understanding about conversion. im still working on being more converted to the gospel everyday....it can be hard.....but sooooooo worth it.
I love you all so much!!

        09/01/14

        09/01/14

(Mom's note)  I woke up in the middle of the night with the thought that "Riley needs your prayers" at first I ignored it but then I got out of bed and knelt down and said a prayer for him.  This was his reply to me.

mom dont worry about me but i love the fact that you in the middle of your sleep woke up and followed the spirit!! Those times are lessons that will help us in the near future. I think of those times as like the spirit is trying to train us to listen to him....we never know when i could be life or not.....I always feel your prayers every day!!! That is soo cool that taylor is home! how is he doing??   Satan is very good at using things that seem reasonable to turn us away from the truth....that is why i dont like him haha. This week we had some good times.....it actually flew by.....this week and next week will as well.......ahhhhh time goes by so much faster when you have more and more things to do. everyday we are busy and when we get home we just crash! haha my companion is so awesome!! way good in the scriptures really humble really good at english and loves to learn our sayings we have in english. like 'we are stuck between a rock and a hard place kind of sayings. I finished the Book of Mormon by the way! How is your Reading? i hope we are still reading!! haha im going to try and finish it again before i go home!! (thats weird to say) I cant believe that on the 13 i will have been out 19 months!!! I will never be able to replace these days with any other. by far the best time of my life. The easisest way to tell if we are truely converted to the Gospel is by following one scripture.

32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou artconverted, strengthen thy brethren.
      • that is truely the test. I love you so much

        08/25/14 Eternal Progression

great week!!! found some new investigators.....dropped others........the caravan keeps on rollin....we dont ever quit in this work....The savior never quit and neither will we!!! I love the mission....I have found myself and more while being here.....I know that i will continue to grow...last night we dropped an Inv. because they were obviously not ready yet. she mentioned that she was content in her life and her religion and did not want to ask God if what we were saying was true. I told myself last night that i hate the word content.....satan is good at manipulating people. tricking them into being content with their progression as children of The Father. Our progression is Eternal. We can be happy with the blessings and grateful for the trials...but when we are content and not doing anything to improve ourselfs we are failing. If we are not coming closer to our Savior...we are falling away from him. there is no staying in one place. anyways...im excited for the week!! I love you all keep up the great work

08/18/14 Transfer week/ What would Jesus Do?

so it was a pretty rough week work wise because it was basically like we worked to 2 1/2 days....three days straight we didnt teach because of the new incoming missionaries having twenty elders sleeping at our house getting things arranged food wise and what not...but a very interesting and fun week. it was cool to see the newbies come in and realize how much i have grown and changed since that point. Every day i learn so much just about being a better person, loving to serve others and do whatever it takes to help the mission grow. One thing that i have been working on is bringing myself down keeping myself humble in all things...i am still working on that and really trying to teach myself to rely upon the Lord. one thing that elder macabenta and i are doing is calling every companionship in the misson throught out the transfer just to check up on them and get a feel and try to get to know them. I love how Jesus Christ states that I know my sheep, AND AM KNOWN OF MINE. that really hits me hard that we always need to be that example to all. we need to show to everyone that we are striving to come unto christ just like them. and to also show that we care for them. We know who Jesus Christ is we have entered into that gate of baptism we are coming closer to him the people who dont know him are who we are trying to save. such an interesting scripture. well we also had a baptism brother xxx. the story is so awesome with this family basically their dad met the missionaries when he was working abroad all they did was give him a pamphlet, he then contacted the missinoaries here in urdaneta then in manila and now the entire family are members.....never underestimate the power of sharing the gospel. im sure those two elders have no idea that this entire family is now baptized.....be an example of the believers......there is that famous saying WWJD right? but we really need to apply that in our lives.....What would he do while he was sitting next to someone on the bus or talking to someone at work. would he just talk about sports and leave or would he leave a lasting impression on the people he meets. ask yourselfs what impression Has Jesus Christ left on you....and do we leave that same impression on others??? i love my mission and love all of you!

hey dad thanks a ton for the awesome email!!! it sounds like things are going good! i still remember the good times we had out riding and stuff shooting guns climbing mountains and doing whatever possible to get a thrill! those were fun time and the times i spent with you really helped me to develop a great work ethic! elder dearing and I gave a workshop earlier to the zone about being dignified and 100% obedient to the zone......president wants us to help some of the other missonaries change....so yeah we got into it a little bit. just enough to get them going .....the zone is doing great though!! a ton of success and everything!! we had a great baptism on saturday. sister xxx...its a part member family and a miracle to be honest. but yeah i didnt baptize i confirmed her! so its a great opportunity! elder dearing and I came back to dagupan today to pick up his suit that he had made and then yeah we ate some good ole america pizza hahaha its just what two americans do when there comps together!! mom i got the packages!!! so amazing thanks a ton but havent got the letters..... but yeah everything is going great here in lingayen zone!! my batch of sister missionaries go home in like 2 weeks....so thats nuts but its okay haha i will try and stay away from prickly bushes but if the Lord puts me in one to learn i will just say that at least the bush smells good. that is one point of view that i have learned to take in the mission....when its hot i say well at least im not wet......when it rains i say well at least its not hot......haha its a good attribute ive picked up in the mission. anyway here a pic of the baptism i love you all so much

07/20/14 fasting and prayers bring baptisms!

              07/20/14

so yeah basically the Lord knows how to help out his missionaries!! elder dearing and I set some great zone goals for this transfer and we are doing our best to achieve them and as we are striving to fast because we want to, and to help others and not just do the monthly fast we are seeing miracles happen!! so this coming saturday sister xxx will be baptized!! I will have the chance to baptize her, the miracle that happened to us this week was even better!! our investigator named brother xxx shouldve been baptized around this time but he is still a special case...him and his wife have been together for 17 yrs and have 6 kids but are not yet married....so he cant be baptized until then. we fasted for them that sister would soften her heart and agree and well that is exactly what happend!! so today they are working out the requirements and what not to get married!! xxx and two of his kids will be getting baptized in a few weeks!! so we are way excited for them!!!

as for me im doing just great!! i just love lingayen so much!! it is defineitley the best zone ever!! haha nothing much else is happening to us. we are going to be finding quite a bit this week to enlarge or padami ang teaching pool....sorry im not great a english....haha but yeah the work is going great im loving life right now except for the ingrowns but hey what do you do about those.....hahaha im used to them by now....anyways keep up the great spirit and follow our savior Jesus Christ!

AMERICA!  but i dont have much to say because its just transfer day. this Saturday Sister xxx and Brother xxx  will be getting baptized!! im way excited for that but other than that i will just update you all next weeki!

              06/22/14 Remember Him!

              06/22/14
wow!! boating with betty hahaha right now being on a boat actually makes me feel sick!! just because it is so hot here right now i dont want to be outside!! this week was awesome though the zone had five baptisms so awesomme!!! this week is transfer day so we will see if i go to a new area or not but i dont think i will....i havent been here for too long. to be honest i dont want to leave yet i love it here too much!! how are things going at home with jordan and alex?? are they happy? hey i got jordans letter by the way and some other post cards!! it was just what i needed because i was a little sick one day like really dizzy i think i was just dehydrated but the next day i couldnt stay awake it was way weird!! but now im okay!! right now we are really focusing on finding new investigators and getting a larger teaching pool! dad how is the summer season treating ya? i know its your favorite season! thats why you should just come here haha its always hot!! i have been focusing my prayers more on others more often like a mentoned last week....its an amazing experience!! mom i just want to ask you for pants that would be the best thing you could send me!! earlier today we had a little sports fest in the middile of the heat but its okay it was way fun. we played some basketball and i can still grab the rim suprisingly so i was excited for that! cassidy emailed me asking for advice and stuff all i told her was to immediately love the people and culture. i will miss this place so much i feel like i was meant for this place the philippines it will be an interesting experience getting on a plane leaving the place i have grown to love so much. like what jordan mentioned to me riverton ut is a very far far away place that doesnt almost seem real. the philippines now seems more realistic than America .....i cant ever imagine a dryer or washer.....i wont know what to do if there isnt trykes that i can just tell to stop and take me somewhere...hahah its just a differrent culture here compared to America and i have grown to love this place......it will never leave my heart or my mind but anyways i love you guys so much!! mom send me a lot of pictures in a letter!! thanks
              love elder Hansen

hey all you people hey all you people wont you listen to meeeeeeeee!! i cant remember where that quote is coming from but its some sort of movie or show??? i think its spongebob??? but yeah this week was amazing the zone is on fire!!! i love it so much the people are really coming out of the wood works for the entire zone!! referrals flying everywhere people getting dunked so i love it!! as for me im doing great!!! i love dagupan so much and will miss this place like crazy this week is transfers so i really hope i will stay here!! ive looked at how i have changed sometimes it scares me.....i laughed really hard for like the first time in three months the other day it surprised me big time.....i have been extremely happy i just havent showed it in that way in so long....it acutally made me miss the byis back at home....there is a movie called the other side of heaven......there is a part where they are out in the ocean with no wind.....one of the charecters (missionary) is a little down but his companion says hey lets take the row boat there are people that need to hear the gospel....one thing that stuck out to me is he said right now im going to be the Lords wind......meaning he is going to be the answer to their prayers wherein they were praying for wind.....that helped me change my perceptive a little bit on life.....sometimes we are the Lords wind in our lifes sometimes we are the people that will make things happen.....and you know what sometimes we are the Lords wind for other people.....there are a lot of people sitting in the middle of the water with no wind to push their sails......we can be that....sorry went off on a little lesson. another thing is about how president ballard reminds himself when he thinks he has accomplished something great and feels he deserves a rest....or if he feels like things are so hard he cant do it anymore the thing he expresses out loud to himself is this phrase "REMEMBER HIM" i will let the spirit tell you whatever that means for you but when things get hard tell yourself REMEMBER HIM and keep going.

              with love

                06/22/14 Gratitude

                06/22/14
so this week all i really want to talk about is one attribute i noticed that one of our investigators has....a very specific personality trait that i wish to inherit at some point in my life. i noticed it in his prayer.1) every time we ask him to pray for us he gets all excited like its the opportunity of a lifetime just to say a prayer....he looks at us and will say elders walang problema! or no problem and he has a huge smile on his face and then will start praying.
                2) his prayers all though they may be a little choppy at times they are beautiful. when we sit back and listen to what the spirit is saying to us as we are praying we are changed. this man has very little material things....he is taking care of his sick mother and has two little kids....when you step out of his house you are in the bario i cant think of the word in english but its where the houses are basically falling apart there is trash and water just built up in front of all their houses.....and the only thing he ever asks for is if he will have the strength to take care of his family...he always is grateful for the blessings he receives even if it is only a small amount he is grateful.
that is my goal in life hopefully i can change and be a more grateful person...the work was amazing and i loved being here this week. the zone had some great baptisms and we have a lot more coming up. brother xxx and sister xxx are doing amzing! brother xxx has gotten rid of smoking completely wheres a shirt and tie to church and looks like a stud!1

I HAD A GREAT WEEK even though it was extremely tough work wise because we had two days where we were not able to work in our area....it was a great experience. the title of my email is in tagalog it basically means humility or to humble yourself....sometimes we need to look back at the things that we have done whether they be good or bad. if they be good recognize that it was because of our Father in Heaven...if they are bad realize that we need to humble our selves and change. repent. repentance is what im studying in my new scriptures...i mark any story or any reference about it and i love it...i have never truely understood repentance until i read the bible dictionary about repentance. we had stake conference last week where elder echo hawk and company spoke to the entire northern luzon. pretty intense things pretty spirtual people. i really want to become that spirtualeven though some people may call me an overly righteous person i dont care.....i would rather be an overly righteous person in the eyes of man and a obedient son in the eyes of our Father rather than a person where people think your cool or of that kind of stature.... i really hope that as i continue in my service to The Lord i will continue to develop these attributes and becoming like our savior. this week we had one investigator come to church sister xxx!! we are really excited for her and the decisions she is making. brother xxx was not able to attend because they were at the hospital until early morning with their grandma....but we understand.....we visited their family sunday afternoon and gave the grandma a blessing.....she has alzheimers i remember my grandma had that as well and i thought about the story my mom told me how when my grandma saw my eyes she kind of smiled and cried because i think she saw herself in my eyes. and she remebered a little bit. but later on that night sister xxx (recent convert) and said elders salamat sa pagpunta nio dito sa bahay....she was grateful that we visited her...it made me think of how much better that visit would have been if it were members that visited her.....i am now realizing the importance of home teaching and visting teaching.....members need to feel the support of others....that is our covenant to mourn with those that mourn....we need to apply those things in our lives. but anyways this week was decent...hopefully we have a better week..oh and i went to the hospital to remove my ingron again.....these stupid things wont leave me alone.... heres a pic.

hey dad happy fathers day!!!! this is some of the sisters in dagupan. the stake president taught us in our stake conference a lot about fathers....the best thing i loved about his talk was he mentioned how what our God wanted to be called was The Father.....i love you dad happy fathers day...one day im going to be a father just like you....love ya.

this week was a good one we had exchanges thats why i was eating pizza in the office. and i did get my packages!! that was awesome!! very exciting i was so happy to get those things. we are doing okay with the part memebers that we are teaching sister xxx went to church yesterday!! we are very excited for her. we also had a newer investigator come to church yesterday for the first time which was awesome!! we didnt expect him to come and then all of the sudden i saw him and i was like elder look!! we both like awkwardly stood up and people looked at us but hey we just did that to help him feel comfortable coming in. so yeah it was a good week. my friends are all doing good on their missions but i need to email like devan and pj and parker again and josh...actually josh doesnt email me....i dont know why but its okay!!!! i am way pumped for alex that is seriously so awesome that he is doing that. trials of faith. we never see the blessings until after the trial of our faith we need to always remeber that one. this wed and thursday we have a mission tour with elder echo hawk so that should be a good time we even have a dinner with them wed. night all of the zone leader and sister training leaders!! but i am glad you are all doing good except dad getting sick!! thats never good. i love you guys so much stay safe and always read!!

                      06/01/14 Relationships

                      06/01/14
this week was a great week!! we have three people lined up to be baptized in the following weeks. they are all PM/RC families that are really progressing. brother xxx and his family are struggling many trials in their lives. we have been able to focus on a couple of scriptures...alma 25:1 and alma 26:27 i believe is what we shared with them just trying to help them to come closer to the savior and have patience in their trials. so as of late i have been trying to develop the things that i am teaching to my investigators and recent converts and really applying these things in my life. yesterday i realized how important our relationships with everyone are. something happened where we were not able to go to an appointment and one of the members was really disappointed in us...we know that as we have good relationships with others people really have a desire to help you....that is very important with missionary work! this is really short im sorry not much else has happened but it was a successful week.

Waiting for Mother's Day skype! 05/19/14

hello family so right now im at the computer shop but there isnt headsets available so im just waiting for that and then i will skype you guys but i cant wait to explain the week to you guys on skype it was awesome!! ill put a picture up right now.
so i will just let you know that we had seven people baptized on saturday and i had the opportunity to confirm four of them and it was one of the most spiritual experiences i have ever had!
so this week was a great week!! was able to teach some new people and contact some new investigators and hopefully it will continue to progress. its kind of a sad time right now because last week at our MLC we found out that elder sikat is transfering. so that will be sad....im going to be separated from my father again...or as goldmember says is fazzzza hahah right now we are teaching brother xxx that is one of the xxx family kids who a while ago was the progressing investigator but stopped progressing because of his job. since he went to their baptism he really felt the power of the Holy ghost and has really changed his desires he has really found that desire to be baptized! he has an IBD for June 21st and we are preparing his father to baptize him so cool right?!!! I know that his is the will of The Lord because xxx father is supposed to be the one who baptizes his son!! its going to be much more memorable and way more exciting!!! i had a great time talking with my family last week! they are doing awesome and i love them so much!!! i hope that alll of you are doing great whether your on a mission going to school or working i hope you are all doing what is needed to please our Heavenly Father.
President monahan mentioned to us that if you want to establish the Church in you are the members have to first start with their true conversion to the gospel. we need to all think if we are truely converted to the gospel or not. do we study the scripture every day? do we serve others with an open heart? is our heart broken and our spirit contrite?? does our Heart have room to let the savior in and let His Gospel take over our desires. are we truely converted?
that is one thing that i am starting to ask myself.....sometimes we need to check ourselves and if we arent we repent and change...to establish the church whether it be in our home at our job in our personal life or in the lifes of others it starts with our personal conversion.
im very grateful for all the support and love that you all show to me each week thanks you so much for everything i love you all

This week has been really really awesome....let me just say that we have some really awesome investigators!!! right now we have nine IBDS and all nine went to church and seven out of the nine will be baptized in the next two weeks!!! so yeah me and elder sikat are way pumped for whats happening here in the area...so as i have been working here i have all ready learned a ton. i have noticed even more how important the spirit is even in finding. we were out tracting and we both got this feeling that we need to talk to the people at that house....almost immediately we both went to the gate and started calling the people...it turns out we met a guy who had listened to the missionaries when he was young...but didnt really want to listen...but what happened was is he got in a tryke accident and shattered his spine so now he cant walk...he has a great desire to know if this is the truth. he said he saw us..because im kind of tall and he said to himself that we were going to come into his house but he didnt call out to us...so the spirit not only spoke to us but spoke to him..so yeah we are having a really great time here right now and really involving the people in the work. we also got to participate in the festival here in dagupan where people crowd the streets and there is a ton of street dancers and bands and what not marching the street performing so what we did was threw on the mormon helping hands vest and handed out water to all of them!!! it was was hot but way fun!! i will send some pics. we had some other cool things happen as well. this week will be the interview for our investigators the xxx family and brother xxx! so pray for them that they will feel the spirit and say what they need to say!! i love all of you and im so grateful for the support that you show to me. i would like to ask if you will all give my family support and send you prayers out for them....thanks again everyone.

04/28/14 How a missionary handles the news of a loved one passing away...

                              04/28/14

                              Dear Dad and family,
i want you to know that my heart is full with the love of our savior Jesus Christ right now....i can feel the impact that you are having on grandpa roger as his time is coming to and end.....I feel that the things you are doing the comfort you are giving him is more than he could ever ask for and it is helping him prepare for what is to come for who he is going to meet and the love he is going to feel when he passes. i have read that death for the righteous is like slipping away into a peaceful state of mind. Let me just say that grandpa will be going back to his FAMILY to his Father and Mother along with all of his other loved ones. to be honest it is really sad that i will not be there to say good bye or to do anything to help him but i know that he will visit me he will help me in this work. i just want to say that i love you guys so much and i know that the Lord will help us through this time. He will guide us by his holy spirit. im so grateful for what you have all done for me and for all the memories that i have of our wonderful family and i hope you have felt the love our savior Jesus Christ these past few days...thank you again for all that you do for me and i will be praying that you will all have the strength needed to do what is coming up to be able to accomplish the things that trials and depressions that we may feel
                              i love you all

                              Happy Easter! 04/19/14

                              04/19/14
dear family!!! im so happy to hear from all of you and when i say all of you i mean mom cause she is the only one that writes because the computer is broken. but i know that your thoughts and words are there for me as well. so yeah dagupan is awesome. me and elder sikat are having a blast and working our butts off!! we are having a ton of blessings everyday with our investigators. president gave us a new goal to get four baptisms in may. so we are really striving to achieve that goal. we have a really sweet family the xxx family who is going to be baptized on may tenth. and we have a lot of other progressing investigators. there is a lot of tender mercies in this work that sometimes i dont notice or pay attention to. the zone itself is way cool. i have a lot of my batch from the mtc in this zone and they are way nice. and that is way cool about (an elder in our ward called to the Philippines)he will love it down there. that is actually where elder sikat is from or that is his mission so yeah. its pure tagolog down there so he will get really good at the language. and its more beautiful there than it is in pangasinan. i didnt do anything for easter and i still have not got the package.....i hope you guys are telling grandpa that i love him......please let me know that you are because obviously i cant speak with him....so please do that for me.  so yeah im doing great here in dagupan and im learning a ton in this area on how to teach how to help others and love others because as a zone leader you are really focused on the zone but also giving a good example to them in your own area. its a big load but i can definitely do it.
we had an experience this morning. we decided we needed to talk to one of the sisters before we started zone studies. we had both felt that it needed to be her. we didnt know why but after we had started the interview she opened up and told us that she is a little homesick and she feels scared to be on a mission because she is scared of rejection and what not. she also explained that her parents and everything didnt want her to go on a misson she actually lived with her grandparents not with her dad she didnt even tell her dad when she was leaving just so she could go on a mission. but the cool thing is, is that we were able to talk to her and help her relax. that is definitely the spirit that guided us this morning. its cool how the Lord works. He is in every detail..so im grateful im here so i love you guys so much and hopefully my package will come in sometime soon...haha

04/13/14 New Zone and Zone Leader Dagupan Zone

                                04/13/14
hello family so yeah i got transferred to my new area in dagupan!!! dagupan 2nd ward and its completely city! im way excited to be here its the first time i have been assigned in a ward or even a city so yeah its pretty cool! and you would never guess who my new companion is.....well not really a new companion because he was my companion before. Elder sikat!!! one year ago haha he was my companion and now he is my comp again!! how crazy is that huh?? so yeah im way more relaxed because i know who my comp is now its just making adjustments to the members. so i have been pretty lucky as well because i got here on friday and saturday we had a baptism! brother xxx now i know its like i just walked into one but i also just left a baptism in aguilar so yeah i guess it all works out. but elder sikat told me that we could be getting 8 more this transfer. we are teaching the xxx family and they are way cool like they should basically for sure get baptized!! so as a zone leader you have a lot more responsiblities we have to worry abut every companionship in the zone we run zone studies each monday we have to organize meetings with the stake president and we will basically be teaching them and giving workshops to other leaders...we have to worry about appt checks basically everything but its fun as well because its a different kind of busy. so im way excited to be transfered and here in dagupan!! It floods here like crazy because the drainage system sucks way bad...even on friday it wasnt even a strong storm and was only like an hour and there was like water to your ankles in our area!!! so yeah and i will most likely be here during the rainy season...haha so im way pumped. but thanks again for everyting i love you guys so much tell grandpa that i love him and that i am praying for him.
and i still have not got the package but its okay maybe on thursday.
                                love you all so much

                                  04/07/14
let me just say that im way sad right now because im getting transferred from my area!!1 i have been here four cycles and im now heading out right before an awesome baptism but its okay just as long as she gets baptized that is all i care about. so last week i turned twenty!!!! wow! haha next year im legal;) hahay just kidding. so yeah thanks so much for the B day wishes it made feel really awesome inside and i at least know that people care but im pretty sure my mom emailed everyone and told them to wish me a happy b day cause that is what my roomate said hahahaha but yea this week was way fun i had  another interview on my birthday so yea happy birthday haha i didnt do much just bought some ice cream. so yeah we are having some good success with other inv. they are progressing as well we are actually going to do an FHE at one of their houses later on tonight so that they can feel the support from the members.
we also have one inv. xxx who gives us referrals a lot its way nice even though she doesnt progress towards bap she is giving us her FRIENDS to teach its way cool. i have a feeling i will get transferred to a city for the first tjme in my mission so we shall; see how that goes!1 haha i love all of you keep up the great work in all that you do!

                                    04/07/14 Becoming a Zone Leader!

                                    04/07/14

                                    dear family,
so this is your wonderful son!! like you didnt know that all ready haha but hey i want to start off with the fact that im for sure transfering on friday to a new area....im becoming a zone leader but i dont know what zone yet....im pretty nervous because we have a lot of responsibilities...but i should be okay.
so its going to be hard to leave this area i have been here for six months and i will miss the members like crazy. they are all way nice and i have grown really close to them all.. sister xxx went to church again!1 thats five weeks in a row so we shall see on april 19 if she got baptized or not. but i know she will. so back to when i became a zone leader. President joined in one of our zone meetings last week and pulled me aside during a break and said "elder hansen the lord has given you a new calling to become a zone leader will you accept and of course i said yes and then he gave me a hug! so im excited but nervous as well.
this week was hard to get members to work with us....we had 15 other lessons taught because members didnt work with us it was pretty annoying. we are trying to get all of our inv. lessons with a member present. but yeah we have a cool inv. family  and we are going to do a FHE with them later on tonight and invite sis xxx and other members to join so that it will be really fun!! the work is progressing but slowly....we have one inv who isnt really progressing but she is always giving us referrals and working with us so its really cool!! maybe she will get the desire to go to church as well. so the work is moving along.
my birthday was fun i decided to buy some ice cream and that was about it....so yeah ahha i still havent got the package but its okay dont worry about that mom. im excited to get that letter that you wrote me a couple of days ago and im glad that grandpa liked his letter. tell everyone that i love them and miss them and i cannot believe that its now april.....time is so fast!

IM really touched about that story with grandpa in the hospital. He still knows where his faith is he knows what is true. i am always sending out my prayer for him and for all of you.
as for this week it was pretty good we didnt get as many lessons in but we did have effective lessons. sister xxx went to church again!!!!!!!! its so cool. she will be baptized on the 19 of april. haha im way excited for that im sorry but im way short on time but i just want to let you guys know how grateful i am for all of you please tell all of our family that i love them. and dad just know that i have a lot more wisdom than you haha just kidding. i cant believe next birthday i will be home again.......i cant believe how fast time goes by. i love you all from the bottom of my heart up until the top!! haha
                                      love elder riley powell hansen
oh and i did get the easter package but not the birthday one.....

***Birthday message to Riley from Dad and Mom
We sent him a package for his birthday with shoes, fun stuff, candy, notes, etc... It never arrived...
                                      Dear Son,
Happy 20th birthday! We hope your Tuesday birthday is filled with love and joy and thoughts of what a great 20 years you have experienced! We hope spoooo much that your birthday package arrives in time! But if not, still have a great day and when your package arrives you can have extra fun!
Dad says your teen play around years are over! Welcome to adulthood! Now you can have fun adult years too! Our thoughts of you this week are happy, cherished thoughts of a happy, sweet baby, a curious, content toddler, a little tough boy who kept up with his brothers in back yard baseball and anything else they could do, a good, fun young teen who developed many attributes of respect, humor, kindness, sportsmanship, friendship, responsibility and honor. You developed talents of good grades, baseball and athleticism, water sports, helping with all family outings, taking care of things you have or we let you use, creativity and much more. But the most important along the way was developing your own sense of right and wrong, obedience, love, patience, empathy a wonderful spirit, awesome decisions and a strong testimony of your  own. Now you are a powerful yet humble missionary, a beloved son, a great young man and person! We love you and are so proud of you! Our lives have been richer, more fun and full because of you!
Okay now dad says mom has a lot of big words and writes way better than me! Dad says dido to what I said. Dad noticed that you are approximately the same age difference as dad is with grandpa approximately 29 and 30 years! Which means you are still wet behind the ears but I am very proud of the incredible wisdom you have all ready. And I miss you so much you make me cry, but I didn't because I'm a full grown man ( with a low T problem!)
So long story short we like you!
                                       Love Dad and Mom

                                        dear family,
first let me answer your questions mom.....sister XXX did accept the ibd and will be baptized on april 12, she has gone to church three times in a row now!!! so that IS way awesome. i have not however got either of those packages...but im sure i will get them next week. but i know they will come in; im very sad about he situation with grandpa...i sent home a letter that has a letter in there for him, Just know that i am always praying for him and for all of you.
i emailed josh and he is doing good but he says he is not eating haha its way funny because he is such a picky eater,,,i told him he hasnt eaten since he left home. his comment was yup if it aint cereal i aint touching it hhahaha....( friend of Riley's on mission in Argentina)...the thing about the philippines is if you dont eat peoples food they will get offended.....so you have to adjust quick.  the work went really well this week we got 3 referrals and six new investigators!! we also had 5 inv. go to church!! so that is really cool im \way pumped for sis xxx!! i dont remember if i had mentioned this before but i saw a brother that I taught and he was baptized and his entire family at lingayen like two weeks ago!!! i guess he is way active and about to get the melchizedek priesthood, along with brother xxx who got baptized the day after i transfered from malasiqui. so i have been having some good weeks lately (horrible english) but yeah i dont have much else to report but i love all of you guys so much

                                        03/16/14

hey family happy st p day!!!! its happy st P day becZuse its just another p day for me haha but its honestly blowing me away i still rmember getting that st patrick's package with the clover stickers and stuff in it. i still have one of those stickers on the back of my nametag from a year ago.....its cool that I have now almost lived in the philippines for a year. and before i continue with my email just want to say that im not sure when i go home its either Jan 27 or Mar 11.........but i can ask president  for you mom so yu can know. if i go home in jan i only have like 10 months left but if its in march i still have a year....thats crazy.....

okay so sister xxx went to church again this week!! yes we are going to give an IBD to her for april 12 later on tonight. we gave her daughter a blessing because she was sick and I guess she got better the next day so sister pando was going around telling everyone that it was the missionaries that healed her kid basically it was way cool!!!! PRIESTHOOD POWER!
as for some of our other investigators we are kind of having a hard time  because of a less active dad in our branch who switched to iglesia....he has hurt feelings towards some members.....so he forbade his daugter from going to church and it is now effecting our work with the investigators in that area. but for the most part things are going pretty well here in the mission and here in aguilar. president told me something nice in my email he said he wished he had a 100 more elder riley hansens so that made me feel great because i have just been a little down because we are having a hard time in the area. but this wednesday we have a trizone conference so i will see president again and i will talk to him.....i bought some more exercise stuff as well suff for my abs and for my shulders so that i can lose some weitght and stay in shape..i weigh 217 so i need to get rid of it now....i cant believe mikey quit baseball??? tht sucks but hopefully coach sato is still there when i get home!! i actually had a dream that coach sommers was there. i had gotten transfered to manila and he was there waiting for me and i gave him a huge hug and stuff it was cool but weird.....i hope they kill copper hills! keep me updated with them i wanna know whats going on. but yeah im doing great i started something new i write down stuff everyday kind of like a journal and i will be sending that home to you guys so you can know things more in detail....but yeah i love you guys so much tell jordan and alex i love them.
                                        love elder riley powell hansen

                                        03/09/14
so im horrible and was way lazy to write last week and this week im really lazy too.. so for two weeks you will all be in the dark with what is happening to elder hansen in the philippines. haha the only thing you need to know is that im english is getting worse and worse...... we had a zone language study and i cant explain enghlish to people..... haha but yeah doing good out here in the HEAT of the work. even tho things can be rough there are always blessings......try and count them and you wont be ble to becaue there is so many. love you all sorry this is so short....\

                                        Be Perfect in Christ 03/09/14

                                        03/09/14
                                        Dad,
im very very grateful for the health of your dad i hope grandpa is doing great right now. and i hope that we just all continue like what you mentioned about the atonement in our own personal progression in becoming like christ. if we think back on What he did for us he experienced everything. The prophets are always saying that in this generation satan is much more powerful than he was in there generation. the temptations that are flying around right now didnt even exist back then. but then we think back on Jesus Christ, he was tempt by satan for 40 days straight by satan. He suffered for ALL sins sickness pains heartbreaks losses everything....so if we do what is commanded of us to be perfect (and if i might add in christ) we will be happy. BE PERFECT IN CHRIST or use his atonement to become perfect.
Dad that is so cool about the award you are getting!!!! because of your hardwork or in tagalog kasipagan you are very successful. Dad you are a very great example to me just like i always say i hope i can be as hard working as you wehn im older i hope im even half the man you are when im older. as for the work like you said we are in a tough area. but even though its hard we have success. so this past week we have been able to teach some really cool families and they are starting to progress and its been awesome to see. but one thing that is hard for us is getting them to come to church.
we have one family the  who their daughter is 16 but she likes to preach and stuff and she is planning to go to baguio for some seminary thing for catholics.....but she prayed to know and she felt the holy ghost and whenever we teach her she never has questions to try and bible bash its just always her trying to know more. hopefully she doesnt go to baguio because if she does she will stop progressing......but they are way fun to teach because they grasp what we are teaching really fast. but for finding things have been farely difficult hopefuly the members will become more involved in giving referrals to us....but im doing great right now im still having a blast here and just trying to learn and grow as a person while i have the two years to serve the lord full time.

I love you so much dad take care this week and just remember that you are always in my prayers.\
                                        love elder Riley Hansen

                                        Testimony of blessings! 03/09/14

                                        03/09/14

Mom's note:  Elder Hansen had just received an email from us that his Grandpa Roger Hansen was in the hospital and expected to pass away.  His father Darin, gave his dad a blessing and he was able to begin to recover for a time and be out of pain.

                                        dear family,

so let me first start out with the fact that i love you guys so much and that you dont need to worry about me and my birthday and what not especially with grandpa in the hospital. I send my love and prayers to you and especially to grandpa and for his recovery! and im also very grateful that you didnt hide this from me or anything because i do want to know when things are happening.
Dad just from what mom wrote i can all ready tell that you used your priesthood valiantly! If you feel that it is okay for you to tell me the experience at a later date i would love to hear it but if you feel like you want to keep it close to your heartt i understand as well. dad i want to say how much i love you and how much i look up to you and for your great example that you show me. i know that because of your priesthood you were able tohelp grandpa in his time of distress, even when it comes down to life and death. The thing i love about blessings is that they really come down to our faith in Christ. if we think about our entire lifes, its about our faith in him whether or not we are saved. so when it comes down to a situation like that where it literally is life or death depending on our faith we really learn a lot from ourselves. and dad im so grateful that you had that experience in your life. Dad i hope i can grow up to be a man of your stature and i dont just mean your 6'5 ripped tall dark and handsome stature, but your spiritual stature and how you carry yourself as a son of God. Mom thanks so much for being the light in our house and for your great spirit. please always stay that way you give us all hope that we will be and can be better people. make sure you take care of dad and grandpa these next few weeks. i want to let you know how the work went this past week. so one great thing is that me and elder urcia met a family the dela cruz family just by preaching by the way to them and they are actually way cool. we have now taught them twice and they have great questions they are asking these questions because they are curious not just because they want to debate. and the cool thing was is in our second lesson we asked them if they believe that we still have living prophets on the earth today and one of the daughters said well for me yeah i believe that there is and so we went right into teaching about joseph smith. (quick side note) throughout the4 lesson they had been asking a lot of questions like who is mormon and stuff like that but when it came to the end of the lesson we asked if they had any questions about joseph smith and they just kind of looked at us like they were satisfied and had no questions. it was really cool experience. another cool experience we had was with the power of prayer and fasting. we had an investigator come to church who hadn't been to church in forever like since we started teaching them. but because of my prayers she came!! blessing of the lord. but i love you all so much love elder hansen
ps i sent a letter home with a lot of pictures!!!1
